Abeer Nehme (1980-), who is considered to be one of the new generation of singers who can best inherit the people's voice and national sentiment sung by Firouz in "To Beirut", is gaining increasing fame in Lebanon and even in the Arab world. She is not only an excellent singer who can sing songs in more than 27 languages and believes that she has a voice given by God; she is also a composer, Qanon player, and musical actor; she is also a music scholar with a master's degree from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik and a diploma in advanced traditional Arabic music performance from the same university. She researches, explores, performs and promotes traditional folk music. For six years starting from 2012, she traveled through many corners of the earth, including more than a dozen countries in the Middle East, Central Asia, North Africa, Southern Europe, South Asia, etc., looking for the roots of folk and ethnic music. She sang and danced with local people, observing various aspects of their culture and traditions, creating a unique documentary series - Ethnophilia: Mousiqa-i-Shou'oub (Ethnophilia Ecstasy). The documentary series consists of 40 episodes, each about an hour long, in which Abeer often sings in local languages to interact well with local folk music groups while introducing and identifying cultural music and traditions from around the world. This also demonstrates her polyglot abilities. Abeer and her team filmed and produced this documentary with the goal of preserving and respecting the world's diverse musical heritage. They are actually challenging the phenomenon of musical hegemony – where the repertoire of some countries dominates the music scene, ignoring other countries. They strive to shed light on musical traditions that were previously abandoned.
